Jaguar Land Rover has introduced new plug-in hybrid technology to Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The company explained on Wednesday that the latest plug-in hybrid system can switch to an electric-only mode for shorter rides. Also, this petrol-and-electric driving technology allows a longer range for the vehicle without refuelling.

Several automakers are introducing plug-in hybrid technology to their conventional fuel-powered models. For example, BMW already has around 500,000 electric and hybrid cars on the road. In March 2020, BMW and Daimler made a forecast that their new electric vehicles will help cut emissions by an average of 20 percent in 2020.

Commenting on the introduction of the plug-in hybrid models, Nick Rogers, Jaguar Land Rover Executive Director of Product Engineering, said, “Efficient electrification, downsizing and lightweight also enables incredibly low CO2 of just 32g/km on the Evoque and 36g/km on the Discovery Sport. Additionally, both vehicles have an impressive all-electric, zero tailpipe emission range of 66km and 62km, respectively.”

He also said, “Our latest plug-in hybrid offers the same awesome capability and composure with all-electric driving and stunning efficiency, both on- and off-road.”

As the company claims, while being driven, the energy generated by the engine during acceleration, or by braking in electric or hybrid mode, is harvested and used to charge the battery of these two models.
