The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has commenced a five-day intensive indoctrination training programme for the first batch of newly recruited officers into its Flight Standards Group (FSG).
The induction ceremony, which began on January 12, 2026, is being held at the NCAA Lagos Regional Office Annex Training Hall in Ikeja.
In his opening address, the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, said the indoctrination programme, alongside several in-house trainings already conducted, reflects NCAA Management’s strong commitment to staff development and technical proficiency across the FSG directorates.
He stressed that the Flight Standards Group represents the technical backbone of the Authority and must therefore be staffed with highly skilled and competent professionals.
Capt. Najomo explained that the FSG Indoctrination is a mandatory programme designed to meet the requirements of Training Category One under the NCAA Inspector Training System (ITS).
He urged participants to remain focused, actively engage during sessions, and fully utilise the programme to enhance their professional competence.
Delivering a welcome address, the Director of Airworthiness and Chairman of the FSG, Engr. Godwin Balang, expressed deep appreciation to the DGCA for his consistent support and hands-on involvement in indoctrination programmes.
He assured participants of the group’s unwavering commitment to professionalism and excellence in the discharge of its regulatory duties.
Also speaking, the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. (Mrs) Anastasia Gbem, highlighted the enormous responsibility borne by the NCAA as Nigeria’s sole civil aviation regulator. She noted that the Authority has achieved significant milestones in recent years, attributing these successes to the exemplary leadership of Capt. Najomo.
The Flight Standards Group comprises key directorates within the NCAA responsible for joint safety oversight, including the Directorate of Airworthiness; Directorate of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards; Directorate of Operations, Licensing and Training Standards; and the Directorate of Legal Services and Company Secretary.
