Residents of Rumuji in Rivers State have received a significant boost in access to clean energy following the commissioning of a 6.5-ton gas dispensing facility aimed at improving living standards and promoting sustainable development.
The project, delivered by NLNG under its Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) framework in collaboration with the Rumuji Cluster Development Foundation, is designed to provide safer and more environmentally friendly cooking alternatives for households in the community.
With the new facility in place, residents can now access cooking gas more conveniently, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources such as firewood and kerosene, which are often linked to health hazards and environmental degradation.
The initiative forms part of broader community development efforts being implemented under the GMoU in Rumuji.
Other interventions include the provision of principal housing, development of road infrastructure, award of scholarships to 29 students, and empowerment programmes supporting 200 women farmers to drive economic growth and sustainability.
The gas dispensing facility is expected to ease daily energy challenges for residents while contributing to improved health outcomes and environmental protection in the community.
NLNG reiterated its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that empower host communities to take charge of their development and build a more prosperous and sustainable future.
