Shell on Wednesday hosted chief executives of contracting companies in Lagos, with a call for sustained commitment to safe operations across its businesses in Nigeria.
City Business News reports that the annual Shell Leadership and Contractor CEO Conference, themed “Learn. Adapt. Improve,” provided a platform for Shell and its contractor partners to reinforce their shared commitment to people, performance and safety.
Addressing participants at the conference, Executive Vice President and Country Chair, Shell Nigeria, Elohor Aiboni, said Shell was executing an extensive portfolio of projects and operations aimed at supporting Nigeria’s growing energy needs, creating value for stakeholders and contributing to national development.
She, however, stressed that safety remained the foremost measure of success, regardless of the scale or significance of any project.
“Shell is delivering an extensive portfolio of projects and operations that will help meet Nigeria’s growing energy needs, create value for our stakeholders, and support national development. We are advancing major opportunities, executing complex work, and pursuing ambitious goals.
“But no matter how significant the opportunity, no matter how important the project, our success will always be measured first by how safely we deliver it. That is why this conference matters,” Aiboni said.
The conference featured discussions and the sharing of lessons from operations, an exhibition, as well as awards and recognition for outstanding safety performance among contractor companies.
A major highlight was the signing of the Leadership Charter, jointly developed in 2025 through collaboration between Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) and its contractor partners.
Speaking ahead of the signing, SNEPCo Managing Director, Ronald Adams, said the conference theme aligned strongly with the objectives of the Charter.
“This year’s conference theme, Learn. Adapt. Improve, connects strongly with the purpose of the Charter,” Adams said.
He explained that learning required honesty about what had worked, the challenges encountered and what workers and operations were revealing.
According to him, adaptation required a willingness to adjust approaches where operational realities demanded improvement, while improvement meant ensuring that the commitments contained in the Charter were embedded in everyday leadership, engagement, performance reviews and safe execution.
Adams said the Charter should go beyond discussions at conferences and become an integral part of how Shell and its contractor partners conduct their operations.
Reiterating the importance of safety, Aiboni said every person working for Shell or on its behalf deserved to return home safely to their families every day.
“Every person who works for Shell or on behalf of Shell deserves to return home safely to their family, every day, without exception,” she said.
The conference underscored the importance of collaboration between Shell and its contractor partners in driving operational excellence, alignment on strategic priorities and sustainable business performance.
