The Executive Secretary/CEO of NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah MON, was represented by Mr. Moses Abere, the Director, Special Duties Department, who led a high‑level delegation to the event.
Delivering a paper titled “Technology, Women and Shipping Regulation in a Smart Port Regime,” Mr. Abere conveyed the Executive Secretary’s message that Nigeria is at a pivotal moment in its maritime development. He stated that aligning technological innovation with gender-responsive regulation is key to building globally competitive and socially transformative ports.
Dr. Akutah noted that ongoing digital transformation in the port sector presents significant opportunities to enhance women’s participation, ultimately strengthening Nigeria’s blue economy.
He emphasized that the future of the maritime industry will be smarter and more sustainable when women are not placed at the margins but at the centre of technological and regulatory advancement.
The theme of the summit emphasized the importance of gender diversity, technology-driven leadership, and inclusive development across sectors, including alternative and informal education.
The award presented to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council further validates its resolve to promote efficiency, transparency, and inclusiveness within the nation’s port ecosystem.
