The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) is saddened by the death of its former Executive Secretary, Capt. Adamu Biu at the age of 70.
In a statement on Tuesday, NSC Head, Public Relations, Mrs Rakiya Zubairu, said:“Gloom was cast over the headquarters of Nigerian Shippers Council, Apapa, when the news of the demise of Capt. Biu filtered in.
“ Biu was the third and immediate past Executive Secretary/CEO of NSC and served two terms from (2004-2012)
“He brought his wealth of experience as a master mariner to connect the NSC to the industry and is credited with pioneering works on Dry Ports and the regulatory status of the NSC.
“He was an internationalist who worked assiduously with Shippers Councils in Africa, thereby bringing regional collaboration which subsists till date.”
Meanwhile, NSC’s Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Hassan Bello, has described the passing of Biu as a deep loss to the industry and the nation as a whole.
He said Biu personified professionalism, astute administration and knowledge, adding that he stabilised the council and led it at its most critical phase.
Earlier, callers who expressed their condolences to the NSC management included Adebayo Sarumi, a former MD of NSC; Vicky Haastrup, Chairman/CEO ENL Consortium; Mr Val Osifor, Mr Greg Igbuefemen, Funke Agbor, Bolaji Akinola, Kingsley Anaroke and a host of others.
