Strengthening National Identity Management Through Strategic Partnerships

By Kayode Adegoke

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), led by Director General/CEO, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, is actively building strategic partnerships across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Recent visits to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Bank of Industry (BOI) demonstrate NIMC’s focus on leveraging the NIMC Act 2026 to promote inclusive identity, financial inclusion, and socio-economic empowerment in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote led the NIMC team on a working visit to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, where they were warmly received by Honourable Minister Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
Discussions focused on inclusive identity management for women, girls, and vulnerable groups. The new NIMC Act 2026 was highlighted for its potential to expand access to legal identity and support evidence-based policies for women’s empowerment.
The Honourable Minister commended NIMC’s progress and pledged close collaboration, emphasising that a secure digital identity system is critical for financial inclusion, social protection, healthcare, education, and family-focused interventions.
In its engagement with the Bank of Industry (BOI), the NIMC team visited the Bank of Industry and was warmly received by the Managing Director/CEO, Dr Olasupo Olusi.
Dr Olusi praised the DG/CEO’s leadership and the NIMC Act 2026, describing it as transformative for the financial sector — particularly for identity verification, credit access, risk management, and secure digital transactions. He noted it appears “almost as if it was enacted specifically for the finance industry.”
BOI reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with NIMC to drive inclusive economic growth through robust digital identity infrastructure.
Both engagements reinforced a shared commitment to:
Expanding access to secure digital identities, with priority for women and vulnerable groups and enhancing financial inclusion and service delivery and deepening inter-agency collaboration for national development.
The Commission comitues it’s engagements on the new NIMC Act in collaboration with other MDAs.
