Yemi Adeyemi Emerges Chair Of IABC Africa

Dr. Yemi Adeyemi has been elected as the first Nigerian Chair of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Africa Region. The election was held during the region’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, June 25, with members from across the continent participating virtually.

Dr. Adeyemi, a respected communications scholar and practitioner, has over 20 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations and academic research. He previously served as vice chair for the region and director for West Africa, playing a key role in expanding membership and building capacity across Africa.

In his acceptance speech, Adeyemi highlighted his vision for the Africa Region. “This is a defining moment for the Africa Region. We will focus on deepening member engagement, enhancing professional development, and creating opportunities for African communicators to lead and shine globally,” he said.

Outgoing chair Camilla Osborne praised Adeyemi’s leadership qualities, stating, “Dr. Adeyemi’s passion for the profession and his strategic insight make him the ideal person to lead the Region into its next phase of growth and relevance.”

Adeyemi’s qualifications include a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Port Harcourt and an MBA from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also holds degrees in Communication Arts and English from the University of Ibadan. A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, he has earned global certifications in strategic communication, project management, and public relations.

The new IABC Africa Regional Executive Board includes Christine Breet as vice chair, Camilla Osborne as past chair, Theresa Lee as treasurer, and other leaders from across the continent.
