Political leaders from Enugu State on Tuesday pledged unalloyed support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The leaders, representing over seven million citizens of the state, made the declaration during a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The delegation was led by Governor Peter Mbah.
The high-powered team included Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh; Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Chief of Naval Staff, Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla; former Governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; as well as former Governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo.
Other members of the delegation comprised lawmakers, former ministers, traditional and religious leaders, academics, and their spouses.
In his remarks, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the show of support, noting that testimonies of growth and infrastructural development across states validate the impact of his administration’s economic reforms. He commended governors for effectively utilising resources allocated to sub-national governments, leading to improvements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and citizens’ welfare.
The President highlighted the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments, assuring the delegation of continued partnership in driving national development. He also referenced key projects such as the Port Harcourt–Enugu railway line, power sector reforms, and other infrastructure initiatives as critical to economic growth.
Tinubu further stated that challenges associated with funding long-term projects had been addressed through increased financial support to states, enabling better planning and execution of development programmes.
Commending Governor Mbah, the President praised efforts to tackle insecurity and improve key sectors in the state, describing him as a transformative leader. He also acknowledged the political realignment in favour of the ruling party, attributing it to the outcomes of ongoing reforms.
“Democracy will continue to thrive despite challenges. We remain committed to building a nation of hope and opportunity for all Nigerians,” the President said.
Earlier, Governor Mbah said the visit symbolised a shared vision for Nigeria’s progress and expressed gratitude for the Federal Government’s support to the state.
“This delegation represents the voices of over seven million sons and daughters of Enugu who are grateful for your leadership and commitment to our development,” he said.
Mbah highlighted several landmark projects inaugurated during the President’s January 2025 visit to the state, noting their positive impact on socio-economic growth.
Also speaking, former Senate President Ken Nnamani commended the President for his support to Enugu State and the South-East, particularly in infrastructure development across roads, railways, and aviation.
He affirmed that the people of the state would stand firmly behind the President in the 2027 election, expressing confidence in both Tinubu’s leadership and Governor Mbah’s stewardship.
The visit underscored growing political alignment and collaboration between Enugu State leaders and the Federal Government ahead of the next general election.
