The Lagos State Government has congratulated Odu’a Investment Company Limited on the successful reopening of the iconic Premier Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State describing the landmark redevelopment as a strong testament to visionary leadership, strategic investment, and the preservation of the South-West’s rich heritage.
Delivering Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s goodwill message at the reopening ceremony, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the restoration of the historic hotel represents far more than the refurbishment of a building.
According to the governor, the project demonstrates a commitment to preserving history while embracing the opportunities presented by a modern economy.
Sanwo-Olu described Premier Hotel as a treasured symbol of hospitality and excellence in the South-West, noting that for decades it has welcomed political leaders, business travellers, families and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.
He commended the Board and Management of Odu’a Investment Company Limited for their foresight and determination in restoring one of the region’s most recognisable assets, saying the redevelopment sends a strong signal of confidence in the future of tourism, hospitality and investment across the South-West.
The governor stressed that a vibrant hospitality industry remains a major driver of economic growth through job creation, support for local businesses, increased tourism and expanded commercial activities. He added that investments such as the renewed Premier Hotel strengthen cities’ appeal as destinations for business, conferences, leisure and cultural exchange.
Sanwo-Olu also praised Odu’a Investment Company Limited for its enduring commitment to regional collaboration and shared prosperity among the South-West states, noting that the company’s achievements continue to highlight the benefits of collective development.
He reaffirmed that as Lagos strengthens its position as Africa’s leading destination for business, tourism, culture and entertainment, the state recognises that its continued success is closely linked to the growth and prosperity of neighbouring South-West states.
“The success of one state contributes to the competitiveness of the entire region. Together, we can build a more prosperous, globally competitive and economically vibrant South-West,” he said.
The governor congratulated the Board, Management, staff and shareholders of Odu’a Investment Company Limited on the milestone, expressing confidence that the refurbished Premier Hotel would continue to serve generations of visitors, create new economic opportunities for the people of Oyo State and contribute significantly to the economic advancement of the South-West and Nigeria.
Also speaking at the event, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the transformation of the 154-bed Premier Hotel on Mokola Hill preserves the region’s heritage while meeting global hospitality and tourism standards.
Akume also assured Nigerians and residents of Oyo State that the Federal Government was taking all necessary measures to safely rescue the kidnapped students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area through a technology-driven operation being coordinated by the Inspector General of Police.
Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, disclosed that the Premier Hotel model would be replicated in other South-West states as part of the company’s broader investment strategy to strengthen regional hospitality infrastructure.
