The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) on Wednesday received a delegation from the African Development Bank Group Nigeria Country Department at its headquarters in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration on automotive development and electric mobility. The delegation, led by Alex Rugamba, outlined the Bank’s ongoing initiative being piloted across several African countries. He explained that the programme is designed to engage policymakers and private sector stakeholders in strategic dialogue to shape and strengthen development pipelines for impactful projects.Rugamba noted that the Bank is mobilising financial resources to support the implementation of viable programmes, with a strong focus on identifying and developing bankable projects within participating countries. As part of the engagement, the delegation sought deeper insight into NADDC’s mandate and explored areas of potential collaboration, particularly in supporting Nigeria’s automotive and e-mobility ecosystem through sustainable and scalable investments. The initiative, according to the delegation, aligns with global climate change goals, with emphasis on promoting cleaner environments. Electric mobility was highlighted as a key pathway to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, advancing sustainable development, and enabling the transition to greener cities across Africa.Rugamba further identified Nigeria as a strategic player in the continent’s transition to cleaner transportation systems, citing the country’s growing ambition in advancing e-mobility solutions. In his remarks, the Director-General of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the Bank’s interest in partnering with the Council. He pointed out that inadequate power supply remains a major challenge for Nigeria’s automotive sector, stressing that addressing the constraint would require substantial financial investment.Osanipin emphasised that green energy represents the future of the global automotive industry, noting that Nigeria must position itself to benefit from the transition. He reaffirmed NADDC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable mobility, local industrial growth, and long-term development of the automotive sector in Nigeria.
