As part of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has distributed learning and relief materials to schools and orphanages in Zaria, Kaduna State.
According to the North West Director of the council, Mrs Karimatu Othman, the initiative highlights the council’s commitment to supporting education and improving the lives of underprivileged children.
Othman said: “This initiative is a demonstration of our commitment to giving back to the community and supporting the education of children who need it the most.” Othman explained that by providing essential resources, the NSC is playing a crucial role in bridging the gap between disadvantaged and privileged children.
The donations are textbooks, notebooks, and other educational materials delivered to Kufena College, Zaria, and LEA Primary School Unguwar Magajiya, Zaria.
In a related development, Beth Torrey Home/School, an orphanage in the Tukur-Tukur area of Zaria, received items such as blankets, a washing machine, towels, a deep freezer, and double-burner cookers.
According to Othman, “This effort reflects the importance of corporate social responsibility and the significant role organizations can play in making a positive impact on their communities.”
She explained that over the past decade, the council’s North West office has consistently engaged in numerous interventions across health, education, and humanitarian sectors, reaching countless communities in need. Othman urged the beneficiaries to ensure the donated items are utilized effectively to serve their intended purpose.
At Beth Torrey Home/School, Abubakar Saidu, the orphanage manager, expressed profound gratitude for the council’s support.
The home caters to children with mental and physical challenges, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment.
“The items donated to us are essential and will significantly address many of the challenges we face daily,” Saidu said.
He emphasized that the orphanage is a non-profit organization committed to caring for mentally and physically challenged children, many of whom require specialized attention.
He also lauded the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for its thoughtfulness and generosity. “Kudos to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for this commendable effort. I hope this initiative inspires other organizations to follow suit and make a difference in the lives of those around them.”
