The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting investments in Nigeria’s deep offshore sector as the Federal Government moves to unlock about $50 billion in new investments.
The Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, stated this on Friday, August 21, 2026, when she received the new Executive Vice President and Country Chair for Shell Nigeria, Elohor Aiboni, at the NUPRC corporate headquarters in Abuja.
Discussions during the meeting focused on ongoing projects being undertaken by Shell, particularly the approximately $10 billion Bonga Southwest project, as part of efforts to boost deep offshore investments in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
The meeting comes amid renewed government efforts to create an enabling environment for major investments and accelerate the development of Nigeria’s upstream petroleum resources.
The NUPRC, in line with its mandate as a business enabler, said it remains committed to supporting industry operators in overcoming regulatory and operational challenges to unlock investments and expand production.
The Commission is targeting the attainment of 3 million barrels of oil per day (mmbopd) by 2030, with increased investments in deep offshore projects expected to play a significant role in achieving the target.
The engagement between the NUPRC and Shell underscores the importance of collaboration between the regulator and industry operators in driving investment, project development and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s upstream sector.
