Shippers Council Wins Ease Of Doing Business Award

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) under the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Hassan Bello has won the “World Bank 2019 Ease of  Doing Business Ranking Award”.

  The award is in recognition of efforts made by  NSC to drive the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) and overall reform initiatives in the ports environment in 2018.

The Council which is one of the priority MDAs within the scope of the Ease of Doing Business Reform Agenda won the award based on its efforts in championing attainment of efficiency in trade facilitation in the ports among service providers.

The second annual PEBEC Awards held at the State House Conference Hall was hosted by the PEBEC and chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

 The Vice President and Chair of PEBEC, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in his address, explained that the award was necessary to recognize the stakeholders who implemented the impactful and landmark reforms in the year 2018 in their various sectors.

Osinbajo said it was also to recognize members of the private sector who have expressly supported the intervention.

While congratulating the NSC management team led by the Executive Secretary, Mr Hassan Bello, Vice President Osinbajo, urged the Council and other Awardees to keep up the excellent work.

In her welcome remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industry, Trade & Investment / PEBEC Secretary , Dr. Jumoke Oduwole stated that the PEBEC Awards was aimed at acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of specific arms of government, subnational governments, ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government and the private sector stakeholders who contributed significantly to the ease of doing business intervention of the Administration.

Oduwole added that the collaborative efforts and continuous support of these stakeholders, including the NSC have significantly contributed towards improving Nigeria’s business climate and overall competitiveness in line with a key strategic objective of the Economic Recovery & Growth Plan (ERGP).
