Yuletide: FRSC Cautions Drivers In Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sokoto Zonal Office, has warned drivers to avoid overloading and speeding as part of measures to ensure accident-free Yuletide.
Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) and Zonal Commanding Officer, Kayode Olagunju, gave the warning while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Friday.
Olagunju, who is in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states explained that the period is usually characterised with so many unnecessary accidents that claims  lot of lives which could also be avoided.
“People should please take it easy on the road during the period and know that only the living celebrate the period.
“Only those who are able to survive this period can celebrate the Christmas and New Year, so we should always consider safety first before any other engagement.
“Moreover, the period come up with an increased traffic density as the number of people travelling generally increase,” he said.
Olagunju said that during the period, a lot of people due to anxiety took safety to the background as they no longer slept because they wanted to make more trips.
“This is also a period when the weather will be cold and some people will want to take alcohol to drive and a lot of them abandon their vehicle maintenance.
“So, travellers need to be extra careful when travelling in a commercial vehicle, monitor the driver and ensure the vehicle is in good condition as well as avoid night journeys,” he said.
The ACM praised the Sultanate Council of Sokoto State for its support for programmes of the FRSC in the zone.
