Family Seeks Probe Into Death Of Retired Ogun Director, Modupe Edun

The family of Mrs. Modupe Edun, a retired director in the Ogun State Civil Service, has called on security agencies to launch a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, citing what it described as troubling inconsistencies and unanswered questions.
A family source, who preferred to remain anonymous, made the appeal while referencing a preliminary independent investigation report dated May 23, 2026, which highlighted alleged irregularities surrounding the incident.
Mrs. Edun reportedly died at her residence in Grace Haven Estate, Kobape, Ogun State, in circumstances initially said to have resulted from a bathroom fall. However, according to the family, independent report raised concerns that it said warrant urgent forensic and law enforcement scrutiny.
According to the report, several issues remain unresolved, including the delayed notification of family members, the alleged movement and handling of the deceased’s body before security agencies were informed, visible injuries reportedly observed on the deceased, possible tampering with the scene, and inconsistencies in the timeline of events.
The report questioned why no immediate alarm was allegedly raised after Mrs. Edun was reportedly found in a pool of blood and why law enforcement authorities were not promptly contacted.
It further alleged that the scene of the incident was cleaned and the body moved to a mortuary before the formal involvement of the police, actions which observers say could potentially affect the integrity of any subsequent investigation.
Additional concerns were reportedly raised over the admission of the body at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta mortuary, with claims that it was received without complete documentation or formal police referral at the time of deposit.
According to the report, such procedural lapses, if established, could undermine transparency in death investigations and compromise forensic processes.
The independent findings also expressed concern over what was described as a slow investigative response by relevant authorities and the apparent absence of visible signs of a detailed forensic or criminal inquiry into the matter.
Furthermore, the report suggested that the nature and distribution of injuries allegedly observed on the deceased appeared inconsistent with what had been presented as a simple accidental bathroom fall.
Consequently, it recommended an immediate forensic review and a full-scale criminal investigation to determine the actual cause and circumstances of Mrs. Edun’s death.
The report also urged investigators to preserve and examine all relevant evidence, including medical records, photographs, mortuary documentation, and witness statements.
Concerned family members and stakeholders have therefore called on the Ogun State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the state to ensure a transparent, impartial, and professional investigation.
They are specifically seeking forensic examinations, reconstruction of the scene, verification of timelines, and the questioning of all persons connected with the incident.
According to the report, only a comprehensive and independent investigation will help establish the true circumstances surrounding Mrs. Edun’s death and strengthen public confidence in the justice system.
