The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 13 patrol vehicles for enforcement of COVID-19 lockdown regulations in Kwara State.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Jonathan Owoade, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Thursday.

Owoade explained that all officers in the command had been deployed to enforce compliance to the social distancing restriction order and traffic regulations in the state.

He said it became necessary to deploy all officers as all hands must be on deck to fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the state and the country at large.

“We are constantly going to the parks to enlighten them on the dangers of carrying more than the specified number of passengers, and even overloading.

“We are also enlightening and enforcing the use of face masks and social distancing in vehicles, especially commercial vehicles.

“When we stop commercial vehicles, and we see that they are violating the traffic social distancing rule, we ask the passengers to come down and take another taxi.

“If we also observe that anyone is not putting on the face mask, we ask the person to come down too, because everyone is a suspect, so we don’t take a chance on others in the vehicle.

“And in doing this, the command has deployed all its officers for the enforcement and 13 patrol vans across the state.

“Ten patrol vans throughout all our unit commands and three here in the state capital, this is to complement the efforts of our sister security agencies in the fight against spread of the  Coronavirus pandemic in the state,” he said. The sector commander however urged road users especially commercial drivers to strictly observe the social distancing regulation while they also obeyed traffic rules and regulations.
