The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, has commenced a comprehensive First Aid Training Programme aimed at strengthening the safety, health, and emergency response capacity of its officers and men.
Declaring the programme open at the Command headquarters in Ikeja, on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, the Unit’s Comptroller, Mohammed Shuaibu, described the initiative as a vital step toward enhancing the well-being and operational readiness of personnel.
According to him, the training, approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, underscores the Service’s commitment to prioritising staff welfare and ensuring a safe working environment.
“Our ability to administer immediate and effective first aid is a critical skill, one that can make the difference between life and death in emergency situations”, he said. “This training is not merely a routine exercise. It is a vital initiative that strengthens our collective commitment to safety, care, and operational readiness.”
He urged all participants to take the training seriously, engage actively with the facilitators, and apply the skills learned both in their official duties and personal lives.
“The skills you gain here today have the power to save lives, safeguard one another, and enhance the overall well-being of our unit”, Shuaibu added.
Comptroller Shuaibu commended the participants for their dedication and expressed confidence that the exercise would have a lasting positive impact on the unit’s efficiency and welfare culture.
The medical team conducted the training sessions, with practical knowledge on handling medical emergencies, administering CPR, treating injuries, and ensuring prompt response during accidents or field operations.
