President Muhammadu Buhari has been re-elected for a second four-year term.
The 76-year-old defeated his main rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, with a margin of under four million votes.
According to an official declaration by Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled PDP 11,262,978 votes.
Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate won in 19 states. Atiku won in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier rejected the result.
Delays and violence marred the run-up to the poll but no independent observer has cited electoral fraud.
