The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has expressed readiness to strengthen collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on the development and implementation of aviation safety guidelines.
Director-General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by a delegation from NNPCL led by the Manager, Environmental Strategy, Policy and Standards, Edwin Aboh, at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
Represented by the Director of Airworthiness Standards and Chairman of the Flight Standards Group, Godwin Balang, the DGCA highlighted the NCAA’s regulatory responsibilities and recent achievements in aviation safety oversight.
He noted that Nigeria recently recorded a major milestone during the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Coordinated Validation Mission, where the country achieved a 91.4 per cent aviation safety rating.
Najomo said the achievement underscored the commitment of the Authority to maintaining high safety standards across the aviation sector.
Responding, Dr. Aboh thanked the NCAA management for the opportunity to engage and collaborate with the company, stressing that NNPCL recognises the strategic importance of the Authority in ensuring safety within aviation-related operations.
He disclosed that NNPCL is currently drafting its aviation safety guidelines and expressed optimism that the NCAA would provide the necessary technical support and professional guidance required for the initiative.
Senior NCAA officials present at the meeting included the Director of Legal Services and Company Secretary, Mary Tufano-Eche, and the Director of Air Transport Regulation, Olayinka Babaoye-Iriobe, alongside other staff members.
