The Board of Directors of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), led by its Chairman, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, has commended the management and staff of the Authority for the significant improvements recorded at the Lagos ports following an oversight visit to Tin Can Island Port and the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.
City Business News reports that the visit, undertaken as part of the Board’s statutory oversight responsibilities, provided members with first-hand insight into the operational environment, ongoing projects and challenges facing the nation’s busiest seaports.
The Board was received by the Port Managers of Tin Can Island and Apapa Ports on behalf of the management and staff of the Authority.
During the engagement, the Port Managers informed the Board that most of the major operational challenges highlighted during the previous oversight visit had been addressed.
Terminal operators also expressed appreciation to the Board, noting that operational issues are now receiving prompt attention under the leadership of Senator Adeyeye, resulting in improved efficiency across the ports.
The Board was further briefed on the recent achievements of the two ports in the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025, where both facilities were ranked among the world’s top 20 most improved ports. Tin Can Island Port ranked 10th, while the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, placed 12th.
According to the Port Managers, the improved rankings were driven by faster vessel turnaround times and the effective implementation of the Ètò electronic truck call-up system, which has significantly eased port access and improved cargo movement.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Adeyeye praised the dedication of the management and workforce, describing the global recognition as a testament to the Authority’s commitment to operational excellence.
He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to modernising Nigeria’s ports and investing in critical road infrastructure, which has enhanced efficiency and service delivery at the nation’s seaports.
The NPA Board reaffirmed its commitment to providing effective oversight and supporting initiatives aimed at sustaining the gains recorded, eliminating operational bottlenecks and strengthening the competitiveness of Nigerian ports in global maritime trade.
