Oscar Onyema, NSE CEO elevated fellow of IoD Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr Oscar N. Onyema was on Friday, July 28, 2018 elevated to a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, Nigeria.

Fellowship is one of the highest honours the IoD can bestow upon on a member. This award comes barely after weeks that Mr Onyema was named the recipient of the 2017 HR People Magazine’s ‘HR Champion of the Year’.

In a letter dated July 7^th, 2017 informing him of the Fellowship, and signed by the Institute’s Acting Director General/CEO, Muhammed Jumba, stated that “we acknowledge your involvement and commitment to corporate leadership development in the capital market. We are pleased to convey to you the approval of the IoD Governing Council for your conferment with a Fellow of the Institute with full rights and privileges therein”. The conferment was done at the 2017 Presidential Biennial Lecture and Dinner exclusively held at the metropolitan Club Lagos.

Mr Onyema’s exemplary leadership service at the premier bourse and contributions to the Capital market in Nigeria and Africa continue to receive local and international recognition. He joined the bourse in 2011 after more than two decades of work experience at leading stock Exchanges in the United States. He served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at American Stock Exchange (Amex), which he joined in 2001. He was the first person of colour to hold that position, and was instrumental in integrating the Amex equity business into the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Euronext equity business after the latter’s acquisition of Amex in 2008. He then managed the NYSE Amex equity trading business, which he helped position as a premier market for small and mid-cap securities.
