South Korean shipbuilder, Samsung Heavy Industries, has secured a deal to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for an Asian customer.

According to the builder’s stock exchange filing, the construction contract has a value of around KRW 225.5 billion (USD 185.8 million).

The new vessel is scheduled for delivery to the undisclosed owner in late October 2021.

The agreement pushes Samsung Heavy Industries’ orderbook value to USD 3.6 billion secured so far this year, almost half of the shipbuilder’s USD 7.8 orderbook goal for 2019. The orders include 19 vessels, 10 of which are LNG carriers.

Due to one-off costs related to a damage suit, Samsung Heavy Industries widened its net loss to KRW 309.4 billion in the second quarter of 2019, compared to a loss of KRW 142.7 billion reported a year earlier.
