The Director-General, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, on Thursday, received the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG/EV), Barrister Ismail Ahmad, at the Council’s headquarters in Abuja, as part of measures to strengthen collaboration on sustainable transport development.
City Business News reports that the meeting focused on aligning policies, expanding the adoption of alternative fuel technologies, and accelerating the growth of Nigeria’s electric mobility and compressed natural gas (CNG) ecosystem.
Both parties also explored opportunities in data sharing, capacity building, and market development.
Ahmad explained that the initiative, established in 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the removal of fuel subsidy, was designed to provide sustainable energy alternatives through gas and, more recently, electric vehicles.
He noted that the programme is leveraging Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to drive adoption.
He stressed the importance of institutional synergy, highlighting NADDC’s role in automotive policy development and regulation, while Pi-CNG/EV focuses on market expansion. According to him, stronger alignment—particularly in data utilisation and technical expertise—is critical for effective implementation, adding that accurate and coordinated data reporting remains key to success.
Ahmad further disclosed that after a successful pilot phase guided by NADDC, the initiative is now scaling up efforts through training, certification, supportive policies, and broader market engagement to ensure nationwide impact.
In his remarks, Osanipin welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed NADDC’s commitment to advancing the adoption of EV and CNG technologies.
He also commended progress in addressing gas availability challenges, describing the collaboration as a major step toward achieving sustainable mobility in Nigeria.
