NRC Suspends Kajola–Apapa Passenger Train Service

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the temporary suspension of its Kajola–Apapa (BAT) Passenger Train Service for three weeks to allow for scheduled maintenance of its locomotives and coaches.
According to the Corporation, the suspension will take effect from Monday, July 6, 2026, and passenger services on the route are expected to resume on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The NRC stated that the last passenger train service before the maintenance break will operate on Friday, July 3, 2026.
Managing Director of NRC, Dr Kayode Opeifa in a statement on Monday explained that the maintenance exercise is aimed at ensuring the continued safety, reliability and efficiency of its train operations, while expressing regret over any inconvenience the temporary suspension may cause to passengers.
It, however, assured customers that freight operations to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as other train terminals on both the Narrow Gauge and Standard Gauge corridors, would continue uninterrupted throughout the maintenance period.
To ease the impact of the suspension, the NRC advised commuters to make use of its Lagos Mass Transit Train (LMTT) services, which operate every weekday from Monday to Friday.
Under the LMTT schedule, morning services depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. for Iddo, while evening return services leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola.
The Corporation encouraged passengers to take advantage of these alternative services during the temporary suspension of the Kajola–Apapa passenger train service.
The NRC thanked passengers for their patience, understanding and continued patronage, reiterating its commitment to providing safe, reliable and efficient rail transportation across the country.
