
The Edo State Police Command has launched an intensified manhunt for the passengers abducted during a deadly attack on a commercial bus along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.
The incident occurred on April 18, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. around the Iguobazuwa axis, when a GUO Transport Company bus with registration number FA 280 YJ, conveying five passengers, was ambushed by armed men suspected to be kidnappers.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Police
Command said three passengers were abducted by the assailants and taken into a nearby forest, prompting an aggressive rescue operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, ordered a coordinated and large-scale manhunt across the Ore–Benin corridor and adjoining forests. Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders have been directed to lead intensive search operations within their jurisdictions.
Operatives from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have also been deployed from the State Headquarters to reinforce the mission, while tactical teams, working in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups, are combing the forests to locate the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The remains of the deceased driver have been deposited at a hospital mortuary, and the vehicle involved in the attack has been recovered.
The Police Command reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to the safety of lives and property, stressing that efforts will continue until the kidnapped victims are rescued and those responsible are brought to justice.
Residents and road users have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid ongoing operations.
