Shippers Council Donates Household Items To Kano Old People’s Home, VVF centre

The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has donated some household itemś to the Kano State Old People’s Home and the Vesico Virginal Fistula (VVF) centre in the state.
The items presented to the beneficiaries by the Executive Secretary of the NSC, Mr Hassan Bello include deep freezers, electric pressing irons, bath towels, bed spreads, electric generators, rechargeable lamps and blankets.
Bello, who was  represented by the Council’s Director in charge of North West, Hajiya Karimatu Usman, explained while presenting the items on Tuesday in Kano that the gesture was part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility to its immediate communities.
According to him, the donation was due to the emphasis and the premium the council places on the issue of its corporate social responsibility programme to the community.
The Executive Secretary, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the council, said that such responsibility was always targeted at the grassroots with a view to touching lives at the base of the society.
“The management of Nigerian Shippers Council appreciates all your efforts towards ensuring that these old people are properly taken care of and given a sense of belonging.
“Our gathering here today could be said to be necessitated by the passion and deep sense of responsibility of the management and as part of our corporate social responsibility to ensure that the needy in the society are supported and empowered,”Bello said.
At the VVF centre, Bello commended the efforts of the management, especially in the area of ensuring that the patients were properly taken care of to make them feel happy.
In their separate remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Nana Abbati and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Alhaji Umar Sanda commended the shippers council for the gesture.
Abbati said that the house which was currently accommodating over 60 people, was established a long time ago under the emirate council, but was later taken over by the State Government and renamed “Old People’s Home.”
According to her, the state government is responsible for the shelter, feeding, clothing and medication of the people in the home.
Abbati commended the NSC for the gesture and assured for proper utilisation of the goods.
In his remarks, Sanda said no fewer than 60 VVF patients were treated and accommodated by the Centre at a time, explaining that many had been taken back to their family after treatment.
He said the gesture was a welcome development as VVF problem affect only the women, especially those at the rural areas that cannot afford to take care of the problem.
