The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has called for closer collaboration with the media to promote efficient trade facilitation, enhance compliance, and strengthen public confidence in Customs operations.
City Business News reports that the appeal was made by the Customs Area Controller (CAC) during a media parley with journalists covering the maritime sector, where he described the engagement as a deliberate effort to build trust with key stakeholders and foster transparency.
According to the CAC, the media plays a strategic role in shaping public perception of the Nigeria Customs Service and supporting the effective delivery of its statutory mandate.
“Your reportage significantly influences public perception of our activities, and by extension, the effectiveness of our mandate. In this regard, I want to make it clear that the press will play a vital role in our administration. You will be fully carried along in our policies, operations, reforms, and achievements,” he said.
The Controller disclosed that the Command plans to organise structured training programmes, sensitisation workshops, and other capacity-building initiatives for journalists to enhance the quality of maritime and Customs reporting.
He stressed that the Command remains committed to ensuring a timely, accurate, and transparent flow of information to the public.
While seeking stronger collaboration, the CAC urged journalists to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and responsible reporting.
“Responsible journalism is critical to maintaining public trust, preventing misinformation, and ensuring that inaccurate or misleading narratives do not undermine our collective objectives,” he stated.
Highlighting the Command’s revenue performance, Comptroller Anani announced that the Tincan Island Port Command generated ₦111.2 billion in revenue in May 2026.
He attributed the impressive performance to improved compliance by stakeholders, enhanced operational efficiency, and the commitment and dedication of officers of the Command.
Speaking on the Command’s operational focus, the CAC reaffirmed its commitment to strict compliance with the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and the continued deployment of technology-driven solutions to facilitate trade, simplify cargo clearance processes, and improve service delivery.
He expressed optimism that the Command would consolidate on the gains already recorded, surpass previous performance levels, and sustain constructive engagement with stakeholders in support of national economic growth and seamless trade facilitation.
The Customs Area Controller reiterated that stronger partnerships with the media and other stakeholders would remain central to the Command’s efforts to enhance transparency, promote voluntary compliance, and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.
