The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has restricted the movement of no fewer than 850 trucks and articulated vehicles during peak periods in the last three weeks of the ongoing Operation Safe Kugbo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The outgoing FCT FRSC Sector Commander, Felix Ndukwadan Theman, disclosed this while handing over to the newly posted Sector Commander, Tijani Iliyasu, noting that the intervention was aimed at ensuring effective traffic management.
Mr. Theman, who has been promoted to Assistant Corps Marshal (Training) at FRSC Headquarters, said the restriction formed part of measures to curb incessant road accidents along major routes.
According to him, the Corps has not recorded any accident since the commencement of the special operation.
He attributed the success recorded during his eight-month tenure to the collaboration of personnel and key stakeholders.
The outgoing commander commended the support received from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, particularly in the deployment of tow trucks, 23 electric motorbikes, and other logistics.
He also urged the new Sector Commander to prioritise public enlightenment and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
Mr. Theman noted that collaboration with the FCT judiciary enhanced regular mobile court sittings to address traffic violations, especially among commercial drivers who drive against traffic.
He further tasked the 19 FRSC Unit Commanders across the six Area Councils to extend maximum support to the new Sector Commander, urging Mr. Iliyasu to introduce additional measures to ensure free flow of traffic along the Lugbe–Airport Expressway and other busy corridors.
In his remarks, Mr. Iliyasu pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor in restoring order on FCT roads.
He assured that he would work closely with Special Marshals and transport union leaders to ensure safer roads for all users.
